Summer 2022 Update

The Big Idea: While Passage Camp isn’t running this year, we’re committed to offering camps that can change lives for years to come.

CAI is committed to serving our community by offering life-changing summer camps.

Through Passage Camp, CAI carries forward the legacy of camps by Biola University and Wheatstone Ministries. For twenty years, those camps reached thousands of youth with a compelling call into Christian adulthood, and inspired them to seek the truth, explore the world, follow our King, and pray to our God.

We hope and expect to resume offering camps in 2023 and beyond. But this year, as we all continue to adjust to a world changed by the pandemic, Passage Camp remains on hiatus.

Every summer that goes by without a camp is sad, and we know that some of you are disappointed by this delay. CAI’s Board is largely made of camp alumni and parents, and we know in our guts the importance of Passage Camp. But we are confident that it is the right decision for this year.

Our goal is to relaunch camp in a way that secures its continuation for years and years to come. In the past, camps carried huge financial risks, and often failed to break even. In this pandemic-altered financial climate, both for us and for our traditional university partners, those risks are even larger.

We are crafting a new model for camp that removes those significant financial risks without reducing camps’ quality for the youth who attend. We are exploring grant-funded university partnerships, we are exploring using nontraditional venues for camp, and we are even exploring buying or leasing our own property from which to host our life-changing rites of passage.

While we pursued all three of those solutions in the lead up to summer 2022, no options rose to the level of sustainability that CAI’s Board set. We’ll keep working until we can offer camps again with every confidence that, with God’s grace, they’ll continue for years and years to come.

If you are looking for an alternative event for summer 2022 that is similar to Passage Camp, we recommend Summer Scholars by our friends at Hildegard College, many of whom previously worked at Biola and Wheatstone’s camps. Click here to learn more.

From all of us at CAI, thank you for your support and your belief in this vital ministry. Together, we’ll keep going until every youth hears a clear and beautiful invitation into Christian adulthood.
